COURTESY CALL ON GTEC BY DELEGATION FROM RIPHAH INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY, ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN

A delegation from Riphah International University, Islamabad, Pakistan, paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Friday, 20th February 2026 at 2:30 p.m., as part of a working visit to Ghana facilitated by the High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Accra. The three-member delegation was led by Mr. Hassan Muhammad Khan, Chancellor of Riphah International University.

The delegation was received on behalf of GTEC by the Deputy Director-General, Prof. Augustine Ocloo, together with the Director for Accreditation, the Director for Corporate Affairs, and the Head of Institutional Accreditation.

Discussions focused on exploring avenues for academic collaboration and institutional partnerships between Riphah International University and Ghanaian tertiary education institutions. Key areas of engagement included procedures for establishing a university in Ghana, accreditation and affiliation requirements, recognition and equivalence of qualifications, collaboration in medical and health sciences education, as well as opportunities for joint research and faculty/student exchange programmes.

Prof. Ocloo welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of Ghana’s tertiary education regulatory framework, outlining the Commission’s mandate in quality assurance, accreditation, and institutional oversight. He emphasised the importance of compliance with national standards and due process in the establishment and operation of tertiary institutions in Ghana.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to continued engagement and information sharing, as the delegation seeks to deepen academic cooperation between Pakistan and Ghana in alignment with Ghana’s regulatory requirements. The Team had earlier engaged with officials of the Ministry of Education who had given their blessings for the collaboration.

The visit reflects the growing interest in cross-border higher education collaboration and underscores GTEC’s role in safeguarding quality and standards within Ghana’s tertiary education landscape.
