A delegation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), led by Director-General Prof. Ahmed Jinapor, paid a courtesy visit to the Jakpa Palace on March 13, 2025, to officially inform Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale I, King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, about the government’s absorption of the Savannah College of Education as a public College of Education.

During the visit, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor assured the Overlord of Gonja of his commitment to working closely with the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, President John Mahama, and other key stakeholders to support the college’s development.

This development follows a delegation sent by Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale I to Accra earlier in March 2025 to engage with relevant authorities to facilitate the college’s absorption. The official confirmation came on March 7, 2025, marking the Savannah College of Education as the 47th public College of Education in Ghana.

Prof. Ahmed Jinapor also called on the people of Gonjaland to contribute to the institution’s growth, emphasizing that collective efforts are essential in complementing government support.

Accompanying the GTEC Director-General were Prof. Elliott Alhassan, Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies and Chairman of the Savannah College Governing Council, Dr. Musah Ekpampo, Acting Principal of Savannah College of Education, the Regional Coordinating Director, and other distinguished personalities.

Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale I expressed his gratitude to President John Mahama, the Minister of Education, GTEC, and all stakeholders involved in securing this milestone. He also urged his subjects to support the college with the necessary resources to ensure its success.

The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with GTEC, remains dedicated to strengthening Ghana’s teacher education system by expanding access to quality training institutions across the country.
