PRESS STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FEES CHARGED AT THE PUBLIC COLLEGES OF EDUCATION
Following concerns raised by a cross-section of the general
public regarding fees being charged at the Country's public Colleges of
Education, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) met with executives
of the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) on
Monday, 27th October, 2025 to discuss the matter. The meeting noted
the following:
1. A new fee
structure had been proposed by PRINCOF which was about 10% increase from last
year's fees.
2. New
components had been introduced into the fee structure (digital resources fees)
3. Accommodation
had gone up by 100%
4. Examination
fees had increased slightly.
The meeting observed that PRINCOF is to meet the
Parliamentary Select Committee on Education on Tuesday, 28th October,
2025 to deliberate on the matter.
In view of the above, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission
(GTEC) has directed National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education
(PRINCOF) to stay action on any fee increments until a decision is reached on
the matter. Thus, the previously approved fees by parliament still holds until
further notice.
Meanwhile, for college-specific fees that have been agreed
with the Student Representative Councils, each College is required to submit a
signed resolution by at least two-thirds of the student body for consideration
by the Commission.
This
release seeks to clear the air on the fees proposed by public Colleges of
Education.

Ag. Deputy Director-General
