Professor Johnson Nyarko
Boampong has been instructed to remain in his position as Vice-Chancellor of
the University of Cape Coast by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC)
until the Commission investigates the circumstances surrounding his
termination. The Commission says that the UCC Council hasn't said anything to
the contrary about giving Professor Boampong a second two-year term. On August
1, the overseeing chamber of the College of Cape Coast ended the arrangement of
Teacher Johnson Nyarko Boampong, whose four-year term started in June 2020 and
authoritatively finished on July 31, 2024. A notice signed by Professor Harold
S., chairman of the university's governing council, despite the alleged
two-year extension, Amonoo-Kuofi ruled that such an extension was
unconstitutional. "In the meantime, given the University had previously communicated
the appointment of Prof.," GTEC stated in a statement dated August 2:
Johnson Nyarko Boampong has been appointed Vice Chancellor by the Commission
(GTEC) for a second two-year term, despite no opposition from the University
Council, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong will keep his position as
Vice-Chancellor until the Commission has looked into the issues and said what
it thinks. In addition, GTEC instructed the university's management to provide
it with all pertinent documents regarding the alleged renewal and termination
of the Vice-Chancellor's appointment. "You are hereby directed to furnish
the Commission with all documents concerning the renewal and purported
termination of the Vice Chancellor’s appointment as well as all
correspondences, court processes, and communique on the matter by Friday, 9th
August 2024," reads the order, "Given the Commission’s mandate to
ensure that the management of the University is not interrupted."
