GTEC GRANTS EXEMPTION FOR CHARTER TO LANCASTER UNIVERSITY GHANA: FORSTERING INNOVATION AND COLLABRATION

In a meeting held on Wednesday, 24th April, 2024 at the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) premises, GTEC confirmed its exemption approval for Charter of Lancaster University Ghana.

Prof. Jinapor, the Acting Director-General of GTEC, clarified the rationale behind the exemption, emphasizing that it's primarily rooted in the fact that Lancaster University Ghana operates as a "branch campus" of Lancaster University, United Kingdom.

Prof. Jinapor expressed his appreciation of the nature and quality of the partnership and collaboration between Lancaster University UK and Transnational Academic Group Ghana (TAG) and the high standards achieved at Lancaster University Ghana. He, however, added that all private universities including Lancaster University Ghana are expected to meet GTEC's accreditation requirements to maintain compliance.

Offering reassurance on the strong ties between the two campuses, Mr. Christopher H. Pilgrim, TAG Ghana‘s Executive Director and leader of the Transnational Academic Group delegation, affirmed the commitment of TAG to continue building on their decade long partnership with Lancaster University, UK, and to building a quality educational institution in Ghana which will be a role model for other private universities.

In a gesture of collaboration and mutual respect, Dr. Emmanuel Arthur extended an invitation to Prof. Jinapor to serve as a guest speaker at Lancaster University Ghana's upcoming graduation ceremony.

Highlighting their commitment to advancing technology and engineering, the Lancaster University Ghana delegation announced the imminent launch of an A.I laboratory at their campus. This new facility promises to be a “game-changer” in Ghana, positioning the university at the forefront of innovation.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism for future collaborations and advancements in Ghana's tertiary education sector.
