The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Thursday, 18 June 2026, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) of The Gambia as part of a week-long study tour focused on strengthening institutional capacity and promoting accountability, transparency, community engagement, and strategic workforce management within The Gambia’s education sector.
The delegation, led by the Honourable Minister for Basic and Secondary Education of The Gambia, Hon. Dr. Habibatou Drammeh, visited Ghana to gain insights into the country’s education governance and regulatory systems, with particular emphasis on the management and oversight of Colleges of Education. The study tour, facilitated by Learning Masterminds, took place from 14–20 June 2026 and also included the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy), Mrs. Roheyatou Kah.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Director-General of GTEC, the Deputy Director-General, Prof. Augustine Ocloo, extended a warm welcome and presented an overview of the Commission’s mandate as the statutory body responsible for the regulation and oversight of both public and private tertiary education institutions in Ghana.
In his remarks, Prof. Ocloo highlighted the governance framework of Colleges of Education in Ghana, explaining that the institutions are administered through Governing Councils with regulatory and institutional support provided by GTEC. He further noted that staffing considerations within the Colleges are aligned with infrastructure capacity and approved financial provisions.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the delegation to gain deeper understanding of Ghana’s tertiary workforce regulatory framework, particularly within the Colleges of Education subsector. Discussions also covered key areas including quality assurance mechanisms, accreditation procedures, and institutional oversight practices that support the delivery of quality tertiary education.
Also present at the meeting were the Acting Director of Policy, Planning and Research, Mr. John Dadzie-Mensah; the Acting Director of Accreditation, Mr. Saaka Sayuti; the Acting Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Jerry Sarfo; and the Head of Institutional Support, Mr. Albert Akutetsu.

The Gambian delegation expressed appreciation to the Management of GTEC for the warm reception and the opportunity to learn from Ghana’s experiences in tertiary education regulation and governance.
The visit reflects the growing collaboration between Ghana and The Gambia in advancing quality education, strengthening institutional governance, and promoting knowledge exchange across the sub-region.
