The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) in collaboration with Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL) has organised the second phase of the Nationwide Capacity Building workshop for Council Members of the Colleges of Education. This workshop was organised on August 8 to 9, 2023 at the Volta Serene Hotel for Council Members of Colleges in and around the Volta Region. In attendance were Chairpersons and Members of Council for Peki College of Education, Dambai College of Education, Akatsi College of Education, St. Teresa’s College of Education, Jasikan College of Education, St. Francis College of Education, Ada College of Education and EP College of Education, Amedzofe.
The Director-General of GTEC, Prof. Mohammed Salifu, in his opening remarks said the primary goal of the workshop was to equip Council members who have been entrusted with steering the affairs of Colleges of Education with the tools and knowledge required to navigate the multifaceted challenges inherent in the realm of education.
Eminent experts from academia, administration, and educational policy who led discussions for the workshop include Deputy Director-General of GTEC, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director for Tertiary at the Ministry of Education, Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie. former Executive Secretary for National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), Dr. Paul Effah and the Acting Director of Finance for UniMAC, Mr. Francis Obeng (CA). Others were Mr. Jerry Safo, Dr. Edmund N. Aalangdong, Dr. Evans Takyi-Ankomah, Mr. Kwaku Boateng, Mrs. Sandra Amoah and Mr. Anthony Debre all of GTEC.
The workshop has already been organised for Council Members of Colleges within the Northern Sector of Ghana and is expected to be taken to Colleges of Education within and around Kumasi, Takoradi, Sunyani and Koforidua.
