GTEC COMMISSIONS 12-ROOM GUEST LODGE TO ENHANCE INSTITUTIONAL OPERATIONS AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on 30th November 2026 commissioned a 12-room facility “GTEC Guest Lodge” at a ceremony attended by the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie; the Director-General of the Commission, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai; Management; and staff of the Commission.

In a welcome address, the Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, stated that the Guest Lodge represents more than just a physical structure, as it embodies four key principles that define the Commission’s identity and future direction. First, he explained that the facility supports the Commission’s regulatory mandate. Secondly, it reflects GTEC’s commitment to self-reliance. Thirdly, it represents an investment in the well-being of its staff. Finally, the Director-General described the Guest Lodge as a statement of standards. He observed that, as an institution responsible for setting and enforcing standards in tertiary education in Ghana, GTEC must demonstrate the quality and excellence it expects from other institutions.

The Honourable Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie in delivering the keynote address expressed her excitement at being part of the ceremony to officially commission the facility. She conveyed her profound gratitude to the Director-General, Management of the Commission and the organising team for the invitation and the honour of commissioning the Guest Lodge. The Minister also used the occasion to invite GTEC to join her in her efforts to mentor, empower and position the younger generation to assume leadership responsibilities and take over from the current generation when the time comes. She expressed particular satisfaction with the multipurpose nature of the facility, noting that it had been designed to serve both GTEC stakeholders and the general public.

She further indicated that beyond providing quality accommodation, the facility would serve as a convenient venue for official events, conferences, workshops, retreats, meetings and other institutional programmes. According to her, this multifunctional character makes the Guest Lodge an important asset not only to GTEC but also to Ghana’s broader tertiary education ecosystem.

The Minister in her concluding remarks further noted that the development of the facility aligns with the country’s broader objective of strengthening its hospitality infrastructure, addressing accommodation deficits and promoting excellent standards of service. The Minister emphasised that Ghana is pursuing a tourism agenda aimed at positioning the country as a competitive, attractive and welcoming destination for both domestic and international visitors.

The Director-General in a concluding remarks expressed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that the facility is managed in accordance with high standards of hospitality, maintenance and accountability.
