The Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, has engaged the Provost of the College of Education, University of Ghana, Prof. Peter Quartey, and his team on matters concerning the operations of the College, its study centers and the need to ensure that its academic programmes remain active and compliant with regulatory requirements.
During the engagement, the Director-General welcomed the delegation and stressed the importance of maintaining a strong working relationship between the College and GTEC, particularly in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements governing tertiary education institutions.
A major issue discussed was the operation of study centers that have not yet received accreditation. Prof. Abdulai explained that the Commission was concerned about the operation of such centers without the requisite regulatory approval. He, however, indicated that GTEC was prepared to give the University some time to put the affected centers in the appropriate condition and make them ready for inspection and subsequent accreditation.
The Director-General urged the College to use the opportunity to address the necessary requirements ahead of the Commission’s inspection. He emphasised that the objective was not merely to regularise the centers but to ensure that they provided an appropriate environment for teaching and learning.
Prof. Abdulai further asked the Provost to convey to the University authorities the need for greater investment in upgrading and improving its study centers across the country. He noted that the expansion of access to tertiary education must be matched by corresponding investment in infrastructure, facilities and other resources required to support quality academic delivery.
He stressed that well-equipped study centers would not only support compliance with GTEC requirements but would also enhance the learning experience of students who depend on such centers for their academic work.
Prof. Abdulai encouraged the Provost and his team to work closely with GTEC to resolve outstanding regulatory matters and ensure that the College’s operations continue to meet the required standards.

The engagement formed part of GTEC’s broader effort to strengthen collaboration with tertiary institutions while promoting regulatory compliance, quality assurance and continuous improvement across Ghana’s tertiary education landscape. Also present at the meeting were GTEC’s Director of Finance, Mr. Frank Nketia and Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Jerry Sarfo.
