GTEC Cautions Universities Against Compromising Quality in Doctoral Admissions

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned universities against admitting more doctoral students than their institutional capacity can adequately support.

Speaking at the African University of Communication and Business graduation ceremony, GTEC Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, stressed that doctoral enrolment must be matched by adequate qualified supervisors, research facilities, library resources and funding.

He emphasised that quality, not quantity, must define doctoral education, warning that the pursuit of increased enrolment must never undermine academic standards, effective supervision and credible research.

GTEC has therefore urged all universities, particularly newly chartered institutions, to ensure that doctoral admissions reflect their actual institutional capacity.
